Drug Store Makeup tested …. The good, the bad and the ugly !

Drug Store Makeup My Favourite hits and misses !

Hey Beauties ,

I did a big haul of drug store makeup products recently to see what’s good and what’s not. As a makeup artist sometimes I don’t always have a lot of drug store items as I usually buy palettes for makeup artists. So when I got asked what my favourite drug store products are I thought I would try some out and tell you guys what I liked and didn’t like.

If some of the products I mention work or don’t work for you let me know. My skin type is Dry so keep that in mind when buying any of these products.

(  I do have some elf favourites but I am doing those is a brand review so stay tuned)

Hits:

L’Oreal True match Lumi foundation $14.96: This foundation is gorgeous, I am surprised at how great the quality is for the price. I love how this foundation gives a beautiful dewy glow but it isn’t oily feeling. It’s a great medium coverage foundation its not cakey and it doesn’t sink into my fine lines etc. My only issue with this line is I didn’t see a great deal of shade range, being that I am lighter I have to get the warm w1-2 and I am a more neutral to cool toned skin colour, They just didn’t have any range for the super fair ( like myself ! I’m British we don’t get sun lol ) and I also didn’t notice a lot of range fore the super dark rich toned girls (I am so jealous).

Nyx Cosmetics HD Foundation $20:  This foundation I found extremely easy to work with, it was very blend able. I love the coverage and it’s a pretty long lasting foundation. Again I didn’t find a great shade range I had to buy two colours and mix them (nude and soft beige). Over all no its not as good photography wise as the makeup forever but its also a third of the cost. I think this is a great foundation for long wear / special occasion makeup but hd foundations I wouldn’t wear daily due to my sensitive skin but if you want a buildable medium-full coverage makeup for under $30 this is by far one of the best hd foundations I have seen at the drugstore.

Milani Cosmetics baked blush in rose d’oro $8: This blush reminds me a lot of one of my all time favourite blushes (M.A.C cosmetics blush in spring sheen). When you try to finger swatch this blush it doesn’t look like its pigmented but when its on a brush it’s a whole new game. I really liked this blush for a soft natural / no makeup makeup look. For the price I didn’t find any other blushes I liked as much as this one.

L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black $ 6.97: This is something I always have in my kit even for clients because nothing is better than this with false lashes. Anyone who has put on lashes know that mascara is always a lighter black than the lashes. This is the only mascara that has the right level of black to perfectly match lashes for a seamless look. I have tried hundreds of mascaras over the years and nothing comes even close to this.

L.A. Girl strobelite powder highlighter in gsp625 80 Watt $ 9: This highlighter is not for the faint hearted. This is a highlighter for those who want that blinding highlight that is the focal point of their look. This can be a tiny bit patchy as most highlighters are but this one has such a pretty gold undertone I don’t even care. This highlighter works best with a small fan brush its really gorgeous and it doesn’t break the bank.

Misses:

The misses

Kiss products top brow eyebrow pencil $9: this pencil is god awful! it’s patchy and hard you can’t even warm it up on your hand to help make the application easer. I found this eyebrow pencil to be stiff, break easily and the spoolie came off after one use. I have used eye shadow’s that filled in my brows better. If you are looking for a great product from this brand try the faux mink lashes they are beyond gorgeous but this pencil really didn’t do anything for me.

Nyx Soft focus primer $10: what can I say about this products ….. oily, doesn’t work on my skin at all it pile’s up . gets very textured and doesn’t hide pores or smooth my skin at all. This brand has so many wonderful, amazing products and primers (angel veil is amazing). This product however is a hard pass. This may work better on for people with oily complexion’s but not for dry at all it makes my skin look like an alligator.

I hope this  is helpful and i hope you all have a very Happy Valentine’s Day !!

xoxo Mandi
