New York fashion week fall/winter trends 2017
As you have probably seen all over the internet that NewYork fashion week has recently come to an end for another season . NYFW was full of powerful styles that highlight both strength and femininity. Below i will list a briefly run though of the biggest trends for fall 2017 hot off the runway.
If the new York fashion week was anything to go by than bobs a coming back in a big way! The truth is long hair will always be in style but for those of your who love to change it up or be a little edgy than this trend is sure to please. On the runway for the new York fashion week the bob hair styles were taking over the catwalks in a big way even Kendal Jenner was seen sporting a new shoulder length bob ( lob). The other shorter style that was evident on the runway are the pixie cuts. This hairstyle is not my cup of tea but a lot of people pull it off beautifully ( I am just not one of them).
The must have hair accessory for the coming season shows we have to get a little more into our inner Blair Waldorf because headbands are all the rage! These were perfectly paired with low sleek ponytails. I loved the red headbands in the altuzarra show, they beautifully complimented the very simple/natural makeup. Makeup for the altuxzarra show was done by Tom Pecheux and hair was done by Oldie Gilbert.
The loud matte lip colours will still be very in for fall 2017 but the perfect lip looks are not . Makeup artist James Kaliardos at the Rosie Assoulin Show did the most stunning bold deep red lips that are blotted and smudged using cotton pads which softens the look for a more romantic feel. I really loved this look it is so flirty and feminine I think I will be rocking this look a lot come fall! These bold lips are paired with a very natural look so the lips are the main event.
Cat eyes :
The black rimmed cat eyes were very visible in many of the shows from new York fashion week. These cat eyes however were vastly different to the traditional looks this cat eye is not on the lash line but more on the upper part of the eyelid and going towards the brow. This bright blue and green colour blocking is very in for fall 2017. Even bright blue mascara was seen on the runway and silver highlighted inner corners are also very in.
As the Oscar de la Renta show it was all about colour. Models were seen with very electric hot pink and pastel blue eyeshade across the lid which I thought was so playful and fun and really went well with this collection.
Minimalist style :
Models from the Calvin Klien show and a few others sported a no makeup makeup look with a hint of a very shimmery silver highlighter in the inner corners of the eyes.
For fall 2017 it seems grey will be the new taupe (used by everyone) Bella Hadid showed off this look best at the Carolina Herrera show with a very subtle grey smoky eye with silver on the inner corners as well. Victoria Beckham was also sporting a grey eyeshadow.
It seems like the harsh contouring is out ! light contouring is still in and I think to a point always will be but the very dramatic contour is not in for fall 2017 (bye bye muddy contours).
Statement lower lashes:
This trend was seen a lot for this season as seen on Gigi Hadid at the Jeremy Scott show. Lower lashes were done very 60’s style with a loose glitter added between the lashes for some extra drama.
The partied all night eyeliner look:
Regardless of if you partied or not the new in look wants you to look like you have. The trendy look has a very dark black kohl liner smoked out on both upper and lower lash lines and for extra drama apply the black liner to your waterline as well.
Pink on pink on pink :
Pink eyeshadow, pink cheeks and pink lips looked absolutely naturally gorgeous this for me is a makeup trend I will implement even now . This look is very fresh and looks like a glow from within and is sure to be a great one when you skin is looking a bit dull to give you a healthier look.
The 60’s , 70’s and 80’s styles are still influencing the runway but while for fall 2016 we saw a lot of the athletic luxury style look. Fall 2017 is more about feminine looks with floral prints and bursts of colours we typically see in spring summer collections are still in through fall 2017 . Which is great because some of the floral patterns you pick up through the summer can get some extra use well into the fall.
The Monique Lhuillier Show was one of my favourite shows from the week and within the show you saw a lot of touches from the gown she created for Dakota Johnson for fifty shades darker.
Argyle Tartan prints is definitely back in a big way from the Marc Jacobs show this style is very preppy inspired. Very ivy league looking styles a lot of cardigans and long blazers. A lot of school uniform style outfits were also seen, plaid is also a trend to watch for fall 2017.
Burnt orange colours were seen on a lot of runways from Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta etc. Green is also very popular for this year in general fashion wise I love the emerald green and olive green fashions I think they look so beautiful on all skin tones.
Capes are also an exciting trend for fall 2017 I love the silhouette that the cape style fashions create. Very beautiful and what says diva more than a cape right!( roll out the red carpet ).
Gold’s, loud prints, pops of colour, rainbow stripes and silks also stood out on many runways During New York fashion week.
Seeing all the trends from fashion week one thing was for certain, Fashion week 2017 was a mix of a fashion show and a political statement. The fashions to the hair and makeup one trend stood out universally and that was a message of confidence, power and fearlessness. In this very difficult time politically it is clear the fashion world is affected just as much as the rest of us. The message is this, go out into the world and present yourself as a strong powerful person who is fearless and who will embrace their individuality.
Stay strong and I hope you enjoyed this post. If you would like to see more of these fashion week reviews please let me know in the comments or on social media (@beautyeditionx on Instagram and twitter).
