Hello Beauties,

It seems like every time you turn around you are confronted with all the ways we are killing the planet. All of the advertising on packages, makeup etc.  This can be very confusing and severally overwhelming. from plastics to paper and everything in between you come to a point when you are like is it even possible?

While it’s not possible to completely change over all the time but it doesn’t mean we can’t make easy positive changes to be more conscious of what we buy and what we throw away. So I have made a few easy steps that make a difference but pretty low cost.

  1. Brita!

Brita systems are great to have instead of bottled water. Not only is it cheaper in the long run for you, it cuts down on all those plastic bottles. If you think about how many bottles of water you go through every year you will see the impact to your contributions to the waste epidemic. When I calculated it I was shocked to see I was using about 300 or more bottles per year. This number sounds insane but you don’t see it until you look at it from this perspective. This change also helps the wallet as well yes getting these systems are more costly in the beginning but after a few months it kind of pays for itself.

    2. Stainless Steel Straws

Yes, they have stainless steel straws! The amount of plastic those simple straws contribute is astonishing for something most of us don’t even notice. As I have also started getting into smoothies I really was able to see it. You can buy a set of stainless steel straws on Amazon for under $15 and they have a cleaning brush as well which makes the whole process so easy. The best part they look kind of fancy too!

I bought these ones for $14.99 CAD

     3. Get some new hardware! Bottles, cups etc.

I switched out from the plastic water bottles and the plastic shaker cups and coffee cups. I bought all new double insulated 30 oz tumbler for smoothies or coffee and a large water bottle to use. Both of these are so great because in addition to being more “ Eco-friendly” these both also keep cold beverages cold for hours as well as keep hot beverages hot, no more cold coffee or warm smoothies for me! You can also find any style and colour you can think of for any price point.

4.Ditch the plastic bags! Cloth all the way

Getting some good durable cloth shopping bags are a really great idea. First of all, it really cuts down on plastic. Second it’s much easier to use and you can carry them more easily (you know when the plastic bag starts cutting off your circulation). Third, you get charged at most places around 5 cents each no thanks! You can even get cloth produce bags so you no longer have to go on a hunt for the plastic bag roll

     5. Buy From Eco-Friendly brands!

A lot of brands out there are making an effort to cut down on waste and using recycled materials for packaging etc. Support the companies that are doing this! At a corporate level it really makes an impact and at the end of the day, you vote with your dollar as simple case of supply and demand.
